Automated Cartridge System Library Server (ACSLS) software is responsiblefor directing and monitoring one or more StorageTek 4400 AutomatedCartridge Systems (ACSs), as well as managing the message and requesttraffic from one or more connected, dismounting, entering and ejecting ofcartridges.ACSLS software is designed to operate without operator intervention andwith a tolerance of failures.To manage tape cartridges, ACSLS maintains, in its Ingres database,volume location information that consists of the statem external label,type of volume, number of uses, home location, and current location ofeach tape cartridge.To manage the ACS library components, ACSLS maintains, in its database,the ACS library hardware configuration.
